Meet Tania
How long have you been a funeral arranger?
I joined Invocare in 2022 as an arranger/conductor. After 20 years working with the Far North Queensland community as an engineer, I noticed I wanted to make more of a personal difference for people on a daily basis.
What do you like about being a funeral arranger?
It is my greatest honour to be able to hear each person’s life story. Before I started this job I thought there were ordinary people in the world – now I know that there is no such thing – every one’s life is meaningful and unique.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare times?
I’m a mad keen underwater hockey player – go the mighty Cairns Crays! It’s a new sport for me but I love the excitement of an underwater feeding frenzy as our team tries to score a goal. At some point everyone has to take a breath, and that’s my chance to swoop down and have a go.
What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
My vegetable garden is a mad mix of different plants all thriving in the tropical rain and heat. I love watching the new pumpkins get larger and larger right before your eyes. I can’t believe how quickly they grow.
What do you like about your local area?
Cairns is such a welcoming and open place. I think so many people come and go from here that everyone is open to making new friends.
What’s the most remarkable funeral you’ve ever arranged?
I can’t keep from shedding a tear when a family has spent time with their loved one to decorate the coffin with messages and photographs. At the end, after the family have left, I am always amazed at how much you can feel the actual love.
What charities does your brand/location support in your area?
I am a member and love to attend the Rondo Amateur Theatre. I am also a life member and active practitioner at the Kacho Yulo Ling Buddhist Centre.
